I believe my greatest mental mistake is that when I was on the golf course, everything had to be perfect or at least I wanted things to be perfect. I was worried about executing the perfect swing and having everything go just the way I wanted. I probably placed too much emphasis on results and score, and when I didn’t reach my goals, I became discouraged and lost a great deal of my confidence. I don’t know why I was like that because off of the golf course I can chill and not take things so seriously and have to have everything “just so,” but I am simply too perfectionistic on the golf course.

When I would be at a tournament, I would even think about my pairings and my tee-off time and I would worry about all of that, and most of that was beyond my control, but I would still be overly concerned with the perfection aspect. I think part of that were the expectations that were placed on me by myself and others, and I would feel sort of bad that I was not living up to my potential.

Now that I have matured a bit, I have realized that I don’t have to be perfect nor should I expect myself to be, and I have taken a bit more of a laid-back attitude to the golf course and can now accept my imperfections and still play good golf. But, the expectation of being perfect or having to be perfect was probably my biggest mental mistake, and I am glad that I have learned that lesson and moved on. I am much happier now.
